Paint The Precambrian Roadshow

This February Half-Term, we are inviting members of the public to help us with our incredible Fossil Challenge as part of our Paint The Precambrian Roadshow!

Charnwood Forest is home to some of the oldest animal fossils from more than 560 million years ago. Over the course of nine days, the Geopark is bringing this fascinating story to Leicester, with the opportunity to learn more and get hands on with our Fossil Challenge. We want children, families, and anyone else who wants to help us, to decorate over 3,000 models of our fabulous fossils so that we can include them in our amazing ‘Geopark in the Dark!’ event at Bradgate Park in March.

With your help we will be building and decorating replicas of fossils such as Charniodiscus, Bradgatia, and Primocandelabrum, which will be brought together in Bradgate Park to recreate the seabed where they lived more than half a billion years ago.

Our Paint The Precambrian Roadshow will also feature information on the Geopark, with the opportunity to explore more about the discovery of Charnwood Forest’s first fossils, and the fascinating geological wonders that have been found since. We’ll also have information on our work across Charnwood Forest, and our application to become a UNESCO Global Geopark.

To join in with this free activity, come and find our Roadshow at half term at these locations:
