Sandham Bridge
Sandham Bridge is an excellent example of a packhorse bridge, one of several in Charnwood Forest that cross the Rothley Brook.

Connecting Thurcaston with Cropston
Built in the 16th or 17th century, it has had many names including Latimer’s Bridge, and now Sandham Bridge. This would have been one of the main routes between Thurcaston and Cropston, and was designed for horses and mules loaded with goods. The low walls make it easy to cross with a horse carrying panniers on both sides, and the triangular refuges allow people and horses to pass each other.
The site is owned by Thurcaston and Cropston Parish Council. Work to tidy and look after the bridge has been supported by the Geopark’s Geoconservation Volunteers.
The geosite lies along a public footpath between Thurcaston and Cropston. There is an interpretation panel at what3words location ///stews.movies.soap
