Local Groups Trained in Orchard Management

Staff and volunteers who care for orchards and green spaces around Charnwood Forest have been learning new skills thanks to a programme of training organised by the Geopark, Leicestershire County Council, and Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust. This work has been possible thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Seasonal sessions over the past few weeks have included orchard management and pruning, hedgelaying, and mistletoe seeding.

Still to come as we move through the spring and summer is wildlife ID, composting, scything for invasive species control (2 courses – balsam and bracken), grassland scything, pollinator patches and tree seeding.

If your group is interested in any of these please contact Helen for more details hsmith@nationalforest.org
