Geopark in the Dark!

Join Charnwood Forest Geopark for an illuminated fossil spectacular within the Bradgate Park ruins!

On the weekend of Friday 13th to Sunday 15th March we will be bringing to life the incredible half-a-billion-year long story of Charnwood Forest, with a free exhibition and illuminated show. Hosted within the evocative 500-year-old ruins of Bradgate House in Bradgate Park, this amazing event will feature over 3,000 models of the Geopark’s fantastic fossils, alongside an immersive projection and light show, and never-before-seen animations of what Charnwood Forest looked like more than 560 million years ago.

Charnwood Forest is home to some of the oldest animal fossils in the world. Our ancient Precambrian fossil community will be recreated with thousands of illuminated models – each uniquely decorated by someone from Leicester and Leicestershire. Schools across the Geopark are taking part in the decoration of fossils including Charnia and Primocandelabrum, and everyone is welcome to join the Geopark to paint and colour their own fossil at our upcoming Paint The Precambrian Roadshow events.

Geopark in the Dark, which will be repeated three times each evening, will be accessible by pre-booked tickets only. Tickets will be available free of charge, thanks to the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund through the Charnwood Forest Landscape Partnership Scheme. The show has been made possible thanks to the support of the Bradgate Park Trust.

Details of how to book your tickets will be announced in due course and posted here. In the meantime, save the date!
