Join Charnwood Forest Geopark for this free online talk presented by Dr Susan Kilby, as she reveals the fascinating story behind some of our region’s place-names.
Place-names can reveal all kinds of interesting things about the history of our cities, towns and villages, and they often illuminate periods of our past for which little or no documentary source material survives. The place-names of Charnwood Forest are no exception, and hidden within them can be found testimony from the people who made the region their home hundreds of years ago. Indeed, looking at the region’s place-names offers us an opportunity to see Charnwood Forest through the eyes of those who named it. During this talk, we’ll explore settlement names alongside more minor landscape names, like field-names. So, if you’re keen to find out all about Mrs Avery’s Broad Baulk, Lowsy Car or Nitty Hole, join us as we take a tour around some of Charnwood Forest’s most exciting place-names.
Book your place using the button to the right, or alternatively use this link to our Eventbrite page.
This event is free to attend, thanks to the kind support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund through the Charnwood Forest Landscape Partnership Scheme.
Those who register will recieve an email a few days before the event with details of how to join the online event.
