British Society For Geomorphology Visits Geopark

Charnwood Forest recently hosted a special visit from the British Society for Geomorphology.

The Society held its Annual Conference at Loughborough University at the start of September, bringing together experts in landforms and landscapes from all across the country. As part of this, the Society organised a pre-Conference field trip to a number of sites across Charnwood Forest.

Delegates had the chance to visit Morley Quarry, host to the very oldest rocks within the Geopark. From there, they visited Beacon Hill, exploring the modern landscapes of Charnwood Forest, and how these are underlain by an ancient 260 million year old landscape that was shaped in the Permian. The field trip ended at Bradgate Park, with a chance for the visitors to better understand the amazing Ediacaran fossils of Charnwood Forest, as well as the SSSI designated landscape at Little Matlock.

Thank you to the Society and Loughborough University for choosing Charnwood Forest Geopark as your field trip location.
