We’re delighted to announce that Charnwood Forest Geopark Festival will be taking place from Saturday 9th January to Sunday 24th January 2027, showcasing our local landscape, heritage, and geology.
The festival will celebrate the achievements of the Charnwood Forest Landscape Partnership Scheme and showcase how funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund has helped communities connect with, care for, and explore Charnwood Forest. As this funding comes to an end it is the perfect opportunity to share these wonderful stories and experiences.
Working with partner organisations, community groups, schools and volunteers, the Landscape Partnership Scheme has supported a fantastic range of activities – from improving access to local sites and conserving important landscapes to providing training and educational opportunities. The festival fortnight will highlight what’s been achieved, share what has been learnt, and inspire even more people to discover the places, stories, and people on their doorstep.
We’re now inviting local community groups, partner organisations, schools, and volunteers to get involved in hosting an event or activity as part of the celebrations. However you’ve been involved in Charnwood Forest Geopark, we’d love for you to be part of our Festival.
Why not host an event, guided walk, talk, or taster session? It’s a chance to showcase what the Charnwood Forest Landscape Partnership Scheme has made possible, celebrate your achievements, and share your plans for the future. Need inspiration? How about a heritage walk, a local history talk, a wildlife ID session, a volunteering taster session, a behind the scenes tour, or a hands-on introduction to a traditional skill such as dry-stone walling or charcoal making?
The festival will also offer local residents and visitors a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the landscape, heritage, and geology of Charnwood Forest. Whether you enjoy walking in the countryside, have a passion for local history or are simply curious about the places around you, there will be opportunities to try something different, find out more about the local area, and discover the people and organisations helping to care for it.
Help us to make it a celebration to remember. Find out more and register you interest in hosting an event on our dedicated Charnwood Forest Geopark Festival webpage. This webpage will also host listings of all the Festival events, once they are published.
