The Geopark were delighted to run two creative sessions as part of Leicestershire County Councils’ Summer Scheme for looked after children this summer. The sessions gave children the chance to get hands-on, painting models of local fossils and discovering more about our fascinating geology. It was a brilliant opportunity to dig out the paints from ‘Paint the Precambrian’ and inspire even more children to learn about the incredible fossils of Charnwood Forest.
There was plenty of creativity, colour, and enthusiasm, with the children having great fun bringing their fossils to life! They asked some great questions and really got into imagining what life would have been like for these fossils, 560 million years ago! The Geopark team were joined by fantastic volunteers, whose support helped to make the sessions a real success. It was wonderful to see the children’s curiosity and enthusiasm shine throughout – showing just how much fun can be had learning about the fossils and geology under our feet!
