Following a successful application for one of our Community Heritage Grant Funds, the Friends of Grace Dieu Priory have unveiled a stunning new interpretation panel beside the ruins of the former Augustinian nunnery.
The A0 (84cm x 119cm) sized panel shows a detailed visualisation of the ruins as they would have looked in the Georgian period of the late 18th-early 19th centuries. The panel comes complete with captioned photos of elements of the priory site and illustrated snapshots showing the priory at its founding in the 13th century and shortly after dissolution 300 years later. Discover more about Grace Dieu Priory’s history on our website.
The panel itself is mounted in a bespoke hardwood timber frame, which is secured within a large concrete trough filled with soil and bedding plants to complete the picturesque look.
Led by the Friends of Grace Dieu Priory, the project was mostly funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund through the Charnwood Forest Geopark’s Community Heritage Fund. If you or your group have a project that could benefit from one of our small grants schemes, visit our website for further information and details on how to apply.
