'HOUSES SHAKEN AND PEOPLE FRIGHTENED'
The earthquake was felt all across Leicestershire, and some surrounding counties. In Hinckley the local paper reported that ‘Miss Porter, engaging in dressmaking, saw the reels of cotton previously standing on her table, dancing about, and a woman living up Mr Porter’s yard was so alarmed that she let her iron fall out of her hand’.
