Free introductory training on wildlife monitoring, Wednesday 23rd April, 9am – 3pm at Shepshed Cricket Club (with practical sessions across the car park in Morley Quarry)
IDVerde, the National Forest, Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust and Charnwood Forest Geopark are delighted to offer a day of free training to anyone who would like to get started with wildlife monitoring.
We’ll cover several different species types, introducing the basic surveying techniques for aquatic habitats, reptiles, butterflies and ‘flower-insect-time’ counts, including a session with Leicestershire’s County Butterfly Recorder, Richard Jeffery. You’ll also be introduced to some recommended apps and have a chance to use them in a practical session at Morley Quarry in the afternoon.
All equipment will be provided, but please feel free to bring along any of your own ID guides. We’ll be spending time outdoors and indoors, so please wear layers, sturdy boots and bring waterproofs. Please also bring your own lunch and snacks.
Please book your space by emailing Ali at abrand-barker@nationalforest.org.
